City Relief Pop-Up

This mobile pop-up, for City Relief, provides an easy to assemble, portable outreach shelter for the homeless society within New York City (NYC) and New Jersey (NJ). The pop-up design will take inspiration from the human spine as the mobile shelter will act as a ‘back bone’ for the guests who will experience it; The spine is the first structure that forms inside the womb, and it supports us from behind. With the addition of this portable outreach shelter, City Relief will be continuing to act as a backbone for the homeless communities in NYC and NJ. Moreover, the shelter will be modular to accommodate different sites while the experience will promote friendship and belonging for guests to embody connection within the community; It will additionally provide the guests with much needed resources to aid them through their trauma(‘s). Aside from services offered to the guests, lounges and divided areas will be provided for both comfort and privacy within the mobile pop-up. Furthermore, the chosen materials, finishes, and furniture will be durable and able to withstand all elements of weather and wind. The design will create a sense of place that embodies connectivity, compassion, transformation, and excellence while enabling the homeless community to have a stronger sense of self.
