Featherbone Live / Work Studio

Many lofts are built out of converted warehouses or old factory buildings in a city's urban center, making them an appealing alternative for professionals who work downtown. Lofts typically do not have interior walls, have more open space, have higher ceilings, and require minimal maintenance. Designers must consult the users of the space to know exactly what their needs are within their live/work space. In the case of this project it is important to look at the features that appeal to the mass majority of people who would want to use the space. As more people gravitate to a freelancing lifestyle, creative co-working, and cohabitating, spaces have popped up all over the world. This new era of design is changing the way people live and work together, inspiring energy-efficient spaces that help people share more resources and ideas. The concept of this design is to create a biophilic modern space while still incorporating the industrial historic features. The living space will connect to all areas in the home while still implementing the aspect of privacy; the mezzanine will be the only private area where the person who is working/living there can get away and relax.
