Rural to Urban Home Renovation

The purpose of this project was to create a residential home within a rural community that supports, positive, social, and physical environmental strategies while using attractive features for the clients - Jane and George Wilson. There was a maximum budget of $450,000 (amount does not include garage, balcony or decks). The design concept for the rural home will support the ethics of this new rural community, and it will implement green design features into the home. 10 years after the rural homes construction, the idea is to move the house to a new urban site with a renovated barrier-free design for the new clients, Wendy and Bill Lawrence. Additionally, it was mandatory to add a basement to the design with a barrier free washroom as the clients need the space to be accessible as they are getting older. The project was then judged by members of the London Home Builders Association's (LHBA) Renovators’ Council. Elements such as the overall concept, styling, function, Ontario Building Code standards, quality of presentation, and use of budget were considered within the design.
